2020 Hurricane Season

by Carter Allen

We can all agree that 2020 has been filled with numerous abnormalities, whether that be in our jobs, homes, or in our community. To add to all the adversity we have faced in 2020, let us just add a record-breaking hurricane season to it. This year was a record-breaking year with 29 named storms, 13 of them being hurricanes. As always, there is a price to pay when living on the Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida coastline, or even in the southern parts of Louisiana, and that is facing the wrath of hurricane season each year.

It is important that residents and businesses keep up to date with their coverage information, especially when hurricane season arises. Knowing your deductibles and exclusions can help make the claims process a lot smoother. It is also handy to have your carrier’s claim support information handy, whether that be during hurricane season or not. When a claim happens, we tend to get flustered and frustrated, it is completely normal, I even do it. However, having all the claims information on standby is just one less step you have to worry about, and it allows you to start your claims process immediately. What a lot of customers do not know is that when a named storm gets in a certain latitude and longitude, most carriers halt writing new business. With that being said, it’s crucial to make sure you have the right coverages you need ahead of time in the event of a named storm. Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Let your insurance carrier and agency take care of any damages you suffered during these times. It is what you have insurance for, and it is what we are here to do!
